Anderson & co | Cafe & Bar in Peckham with a Local Charm
Contributed by: @ImAdeAkins
Fellow blogger Esmé of @TheFiveEs and I decided to meet for brunch in Peckham (as both of us have close ties to the area). One place on both of our to-see lists was Anderson & co, located on the popular Bellenden Road.
ANDERSON & CO AT A GLANCE
- Venue type: Cafe & Bar
- Location: Peckham, South London
- Opening hours: 8am-5pm (Mon-Sat) then they re-open from 6pm-10.30pm (last orders at 9.30pm), 8.30am-4.30pm (Sunday)
- Drink prices: Coffee and juices from £2, beers from £3, wines and spirits also available
- Food prices: My pastry cost £2, my Vegan special cost £9, a larger meal would cost about £11-13.
- Website: http://www.andersonandcompany.co.uk/
Step in to Anderson & co. and you're immediately greeted by the sight of freshly baked bread and an array of handmade sandwiches, pastries and cakes.
It's cosy, with about 4 small tables and stools by the windows but further space through the back and out in the garden.
On the rare chance that the weather is good there's no better place to sit than the garden. If you look hard enough you'll find some quirky little features, with 'little' being the keyword.
Whether you fancy a caffeine fix to start your day or a boozy brunch there's definitely something on the menu for you. My personal recommendation would have to be a Zenzero with seasonal apples, ginger and lemon. Whoever is in charge of the recipes for DailyDoseLDN must have added crack to this because I was instantly hooked. So good in fact, even the water spilled on the table was smiling gleefully.
Health is wealth and as such I've been trying to eat a more balanced diet with a lesser reliance on meat (my friends Tahra and Paul would both be proud). I went for the Vegan Special which was a mashup of sweet potato, roasted vegetables, kale salad and a dash of chilli for that extra kick- marvellous!
Esmé opted for avocado on toast with a poached egg and chorizo- which she thoroughly (and slowly) enjoyed.
FINAL THOUGHTS ON ANDERSON & CO
The atmosphere is very chilled, welcoming and somewhere that instantly gives you that local feel; if you're a newbie or a regular I would imagine you'd appreciate it. After a hectic week and probably a lively Friday night if you're anything like me, Anderson & co.'s environment is the perfect remedy.
It's crazy how many times I've been in the area and overlooked it or needed a good cafe and travelled further out of South London. Its a very inviting place that is only enhanced by charming and extremely friendly staff. The food was tasty and not overly priced. If you need a good food spot that has healthier, tasty and most important filling, vegan-friendly offerings too, then you'll be daft not to check this place out.
